Todos juntos. Everyone together.

Dear family, friends and benefactors,

We apologize for our absence updating our site.

As you know, our reality has changed dramatically due to the pandemic that is ravaging the world.

As here in the United States, Perú was affected and the pre-university classes had to be suspended since March. The restrictions in Perú have eased up in some regions and just this week the school’s administrator, Omar Guerrero, has started advertising virtual classes. He had meetings with Mórrope’s municipality, the Campesinos Association, and with professors of the main public university to procure financial help for all the students. He does not know how much financial support they will be able to offer, as their coffers have not seen much income.

The Peruvian government is requiring virtual classes. In order to meet this requirement, Omar has met with the owner of a private school to learn more about facilitating online learning. At the same time, he has procured the help of an engineer friend with knowledge of the programs needed for the curriculum taught at the school.

Recently, Omar has discussed resource procurement with some friends who have pledged to provide materials for the classes. They have noticed that, due to the pandemic, students have had to put their studies on hold in order to help provide for their families. Online learning would allow these students to resume their lessons.

This year The Hope for Mórrope Foundation was scheduled to host our biennial fundraiser in October. Unfortunately, the negative impact of Covid-19 has affected the businesses of our chef friends, restaurants, and catering companies who so generously provide the culinary delights you have come to enjoy in our fundraising events. In addition, the restrictions we are all experiencing may continue until at least through the end of the year. Our hope is to come back stronger (and healthier!) in 2021.

While we have had to pause, our mission to support the education efforts in Mórrope, Perú is still strong. We have started discussing projects that are “outside the box” of our usual means of fundraising. Please continue to monitor our site for opportunities to contribute to the continuing education of the students in Mórrope.

As always, we ask you to pray for us as we continue our commitment to provide education to the most deserving kids.

Thank you so much, and God bless you all!

2018 Update

Dear friends of Mórrope we are happy to report that on May 23rd 2017 Vito and I traveled to Mórrope for the dedication and Blessing of the second floor of our school building. (Please access our gallery of photo’s to view the pictures) It was an amazing trip! After recovering from the El Niño flooding, through you generous support we were able to complete the second floor of our building. However there is much to be done. The school must be repainted; teaching materials are desperately needed, most importantly, because of the expansion to the second floor we are in need of student and teacher desks as well as white boards. We are happy to report that we have installed Wi-Fi in the building so that the students can access the most recent learning materials. Finally, because of the expansion we are in desperate need of five new computers and monitors.
On another very positive note, in 2017 we hired a past student Carlos Omar Guerrero Bances to be our school administrator and he has done an extraordinary job! Especially with the repairs after El Niño and the completion of the school building.
During our trip our administrator Omar introduced us to a Canadian NGO representative, Andre Pino, who was interested in using our building for outreach classes to the Mórrope community.
As such, in May of 2017, the Foundation signed an agreement with the NGO (Non-Government Organization) from Canada.
Their mission is to educate young people on how to become an entrepreneur’s, leading to starting micro- businesses,
Included in the training are classes in public speaking, independent thinking and how to be an organizer. The first class has successfully ended with all the students obtaining a certificate of completion. A new class will start in May 2018.
Friends, the Foundation’s work it’s not finished yet.
Vito and I are currently planning a fundraising event in the month of October and hoping it will be a success. Stay Tuned!!!
Sincerely,
Doris

Our Building

We hope you will join us in support of our capital building fund. This supports outfitting classrooms with furniture, repairing and painting the school after the floods of 2017, and looking forward to the creation of a computer lab.

2018 Building Completed to Date

Our Goal: $125,000

Since founding The Hope for Morrope foundation, a 501(3c) entity, we have built a textile center, the first floor of three for our preparatory school, and at the close of 2015, over 300 of our students have been accepted to several university and are engaged in various fields of study.  Well over 100 students have graduated from various universities and technical schools and are gainfully employed in a variety of fields. Our capital building goal of $125,000 is more than thirty-three percent met.  Our hope is to raise the remaining funds this year so that floors 2 and 3 of the building may be finished, staffed and equipped, enabling us to triple the number of students we can provide preparatory training to enter university.
To help us reach our goal, please consider a donation, a sponsorship, and attending this year’s fundraising event in April. We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support in the past 15 years.
